10 years of zero emission bus leadership in London

As the largest bus operator in London, Go-Ahead has spent the past decade shaping one of the world’s most advanced zero-emission bus networks. The journey began in 2013 with the introduction of London’s first modern electric bus, and today the company operates 520 zero-emission buses on behalf of Transport for London.

Over ten years, these vehicles have delivered a reduction of 40,000 tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to removing 24,000 cars from London’s roads - significantly improving air quality and demonstrating what large-scale decarbonisation can achieve in a dense urban environment.

Go-Ahead is set to grow its electric fleet to 1,000 buses by 2026, representing nearly half its total operations. To support this growth, Go-Ahead opened a Zero Emission Centre for Excellence in 2022 to advance the reliability and efficiency of zero-emission bus operations in London and beyond.
