Our commitment
We are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all children who travel on our services.
We recognise the diversity of the communities we serve and are committed to providing a culturally safe environment for all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Child safety and wellbeing are part of how we operate day to day. We embed child safety and wellbeing into our everyday operations, training and decision-making, and work to prevent harm, respond to concerns, and support children through our procedures and practices.
Our approach is guided by the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and the Child Safe Standards that apply in each state and territory in which we operate. This means:
- Children’s safety always comes first.
- Our people are carefully selected and appropriately authorised, including completing all relevant background and suitability checks for their role.
- Our people are trained to work safely around children, including recognising risks and responding appropriately.
- We set clear expectations for behaviour when working around children.
- We identify and manage risks to children in our operations, including high-risk activities, environments and situations where children may be vulnerable.
- We implement controls to minimise risks to children and regularly review those controls to ensure they remain effective.
- We promote a culture where concerns about child safety are raised, taken seriously, and acted on.
- We provide a clear and accessible way for children, families and communities to raise concerns or provide feedback.
