Kinetic and Dysons have announced they have entered into an agreement under which Kinetic will acquire 100 per cent of the Dysons business.
Operating for 73 years, Dysons is one of Australia’s most established bus and coach companies, operating bus and coach services across Victoria and New South Wales, including metropolitan, regional, school and charter services.
The company employs nearly 1,200 people and operates a fleet of 625 buses and coaches across 12 depots, with a strong presence in metropolitan Melbourne, south-east and north-east regional Victoria and regional New South Wales.
Dysons and Kinetic have a shared focus and commitment on supporting the transition to more sustainable public transport, and operate zero-emissions bus services, including under Victoria’s Metropolitan Zero Emissions Bus Franchise (MZF).
The proposed transaction follows a strategic review undertaken by the Dysons Board after securing the MZF franchise in 2025. That review identified the need to strengthen the business’s capacity for long-term investment and growth to remain competitive in a changing public transport environment.
Dysons Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Jakab said the decision had been made following careful consideration.
“This agreement reflects the Board’s view on what is in the best interests of the long-term future of the business and our people,” Mr Jakab said.
“Kinetic brings additional scale and financial capacity that can support continued investment, while maintaining Dysons’ operational standards, safety culture and community focus.”
Kinetic has grown into a world-leading zero-emissions transit company, deploying more than 430 electric buses and electrifying 19 depots since 2020. The company is working with partners to roll out a fully zero-emissions urban fleet by 2035.
Kinetic Group CEO Michael Sewards said Dyson’s infrastructure and network accelerates progress toward this goal, building on a relationship that spans more than two decades.
"The success of both Kinetic and Dysons has been built on strong values. We share deep commitments to fleet safety and reliability, to valuing our people, and to improving the communities we serve,” Mr Sewards said.
“Together, we'll deliver the infrastructure and expertise to accelerate zero emissions transport, and we look forward to strengthening partnerships with local businesses, governments, schools and community groups across Victoria and New South Wales."
"We're looking forward to welcoming the Dysons team and continuing to deliver the services that passengers and communities have relied on for more than 70 years.”
The transaction is expected to complete in H2 2026 and remains subject to all relevant regulatory and government approvals.
Throughout the regulatory approval period, Dysons’ operations will continue as normal.
There will be no changes to Dysons services, contracts or performance obligations for customers, passengers, contracting authorities or suppliers
