Zero Emissions

Leading owner & operator of zero emission buses

The world is at a crossroads. If we keep going in the same direction, we’re headed for a climate disaster.

As an industry leader, we have a responsibility to the planet. But we don’t just want to do less harm – we’re committed to doing the most good and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

We're committed to encouraging people to use public transport, and working with our partners to decarbonise public transport.

That’s why we’re on a mission to remove every diesel bus off the road along with the millions of tons of greenhouse gases they emit.

We recognise our responsibility in moving people in a way that treads even more lightly on our planet.

The benefits of a greener future are clear to see.

Imagine a clear blue sky, and transport that’s almost silent. We’re helping more cities make it happen. Right now, we’re supporting key governments and authorities with the transition of transport networks to electric.

We’re implementing changes across Australia and New Zealand, and throughout the UK. And it’s only set to grow.

We have the know-how and experience to scale up renewable energy and electrification infrastructure, ensuring that it remains cost-efficient and reliable.

Delivering 152 electric buses to Auckland

Auckland Transport (AT) signed a deal with NZ Bus (now Kinetic) in 2021 to deliver the country's largest electric bus order to the city's bus network over 4 years.

Kinetic then unveiled Australasia's largest and New Zealand's first fully electric bus depot in East Auckland, home to the first wave of 35 new electric buses.

Within two years of AT announcing the initiative, Kinetic has now delivered over 100 zero emission buses across 4 depots improving the environmental impact of the city's bus network.

Eyeing a more electric future in Christchurch

Kinetic is partnering with Environment Canterbury to help decarbonise its Metro fleet and reduce emissions from Christchurch‘s urban bus services.

With funding support from Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Kinetic has grown its electric fleet to 62 vehicles in Christchurch—representing more than a quarter of the fleet.

Kinetic will continue to support Environment Canterbury in electrifying the remainder of the fleet over the coming years, under its commitment to having a fully zero-emissions fleet by 2035.

Creating an all-electric bus city in Oxford

Kinetic owned Go-Ahead is rolling out one of the UK’s biggest fleets of electric buses in Oxford in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council.

As part of a £82.5 million project, Go-Ahead will deliver 104 zero emission buses onto the streets of Oxford by the end of 2024, over 80 of which are already in service.

This project has seen the full electrification of the company’s Cowley Depot, making it one of Britain’s largest electric vehicle charging hubs—capable of delivering enough electricity to charge 17,000 family homes.

The pace and scale of the transformation in Oxford was recongised at the 2024 UK Green Business Awards, with Go-Ahead winning the ‘Transport Project of the Year’ category.

Accelerating Wellington’s transition to an emissions-free fleet

Kinetic is supporting Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC)’s ambitions for all core bus services to be electric by 2030, and to have an emissions-free fleet by 2035.

Since introducing the first electric bus into service in 2021, Kinetic’s zero-emission fleet in Wellington has grown to over 50, including 16 double-decker electric vehicles.

This is helping propel Greater Wellington towards its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
