• Kinetic Cairns has played host to a local film production shot entirely on board a bus.

• Up-and-coming Cairns filmmaker Elleni Geena Adams put together an all-local cast and crew for the production of ‘Love Waves’ later this year

• The short film will debut later this year and is showcasing the talents of the North Queensland community

When it comes to blockbusters on buses the iconic action film Speed starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves is hard to surpass, however an innovative local Cairns filmmaker is hoping ‘Love Waves’ will really ‘move people’.

Love Waves is a coming-of-age love story from talented North Queensland filmmaker Elleni Geena Adams filmed entirely on board a public bus.

Elleni Geena teamed up with Kinetic in Cairns to shoot her short film which features a local cast and crew.

Having graduated Cairns State High, Elleni Geena says she was inspired to write, direct and produce a film that reflected her local environment.

“I wanted to set the story on a bus and reached out to Kinetic who were fantastic and allowed us to shoot at their depot in Cairns,” said Elleni Geena.

“Without this type of support from businesses it can be challenging to tell our local stories as the film industry in Cairns is not as developed as the bigger cities.

“We had a fantastic group of people from Cairns who brought different backgrounds and talents to the project and we are excited to see the end result.”

The film is expected to be complete mid-year with plans to premiere at the Understory Film Festival in Cairns and subsequent short-film festivals around the country.

Kinetic’s Executive General Manager for North Queensland, Martin Hall said the request was one of the most unique charters the company had accommodated.

“We hire buses for many different events but this may be the first time the request didn’t involve a bus leaving the depot,” he said.

“As it’s a low-budget local arts project our team in Cairns were happy to accommodate the film set at no cost and we can’t wait to see Elleni Geena’s vision become reality.”

Love Waves is already creating local buzz with the Cairns Post recently profiling the project, to find out more on Elleni Geena’s current and upcoming films visit her Instagram at elleni_geena_creative .
