Kinetic bus drivers nominated as Queensland’s best

1 March 2024
Pamela Hardy – Sunshine Coast

Across Queensland the community relies on bus drivers to get them safely to their destination and each year the public has the opportunity to give back to bus drivers through Translink’s ‘Queensland Bus Driver of the Year’ awards.

The high levels of customer service and passion Kinetic drivers have for serving communities has been recognised this week with two bus drivers being selected as finalists in the prestigious awards.

Congratulations to Pamela Hardy – Sunshine Coast and Maurice Dezotti – Bundaberg who are among the short-listed finalists in both of their respective categories following hundreds of nominations from the public.

Pamela, who is in the running to win the ‘South-East Queensland’ category, joined Kinetic through our Women Up Front trainee bus driver program in 2023.

She has since embraced the community aspect of bus driving and loves interacting with passengers from all walks of life. She even greets them in multiple languages including Ausland.

Pamela said the beautiful thing about driving a bus is all the scenery and being able to share that with people from all over the world.

“One of my favourite things about being a bus driver is being able to be in the community and interact with people from all different backgrounds,” she said.

Maurice, who hails from Kinetic’s network in Bundaberg, has been a cheerful local bus driver for 12 years. Originally from Italy, he was honoured as Kinetic’s Values Champion of the Year and is known for his warm hospitality. He’s up for the ‘Regional’ category.

Maurice said he feels humbled to be nominated and if he wins he will be on top of the world knowing people appreciate all the work he has done.

“Being a bus driver, I didn’t realise how rewarding it can be in so many ways and seeing passengers happy on the bus just makes my day.”

Kinetic Executive General Manager for South-East Queensland and North Queensland, Martin Hall, congratulated the drivers on this significant achievement.

“Maurice and Pamela are both up against two other drivers in their respective categories but we truly believe they deserve to be named Queensland’s best,” Mr Hall said.

“When you watch their videos you can hear their pride for what they do and we are confident the public will put their support behind Pamela and Maurice.

We are proud of their recognition and it’s no wonder they’ve made such a positive impact on their communities.”

Voting is open now and closes Thursday 14 March, so vote for Pamela and Maurice and be sure to check out their nomination videos by visiting translink.com.au.
