Faster, easier way to pay

There’s an easier way to pay. 

We're rolling out faster, easier ways to pay across our regional Queensland networks.

Once active in your area you can tap on and tap off with Visa, Mastercard, debit card, or a card in your phone or watch. The Queensland Government's 50 cent fare applies however you pay.

How does it work?

Just tap on when you board and tap off when you leave. Use the same contactless card, phone or watch you already carry. 

  1. Take your card, smart phone or watch. 
  2. Tap on as you board.
  3. Tap off as you leave. 
  4. Green tick - done. 

Remember to tap on and tap off every trip, including when you change buses, so you always pay the right fare. 

When does this start?

We're rolling out tap on and off technology across Kinetic's regional Queensland networks progressively through the remainder of 2026. Timing for regional bus networks is;

  • Carins:  mid September 
  • Townsville: November
  • Mackay: late November
  • Rockhampton: mid December
  • Bundaberg: late December

Got a question?

If I use a credit or debit card do I still get charged 50 cents?

Yes. The 50 cent fare applies to card and cash payments. 

How does this payment option work?

Take your card out of your wallet or case or prepare your smart device ready to tap. You need to tap on at the start of a trip and tap off at the end of a trip using the same card or smart device. 

How do I know I am tapping on and off correctly?

When you tap on and off correctly the card reader displays a green tick. 

What if I am travelling as part of a group?

Groups can also travel on a single card, with a multi-traveller option on the reader letting one passenger select the number of additional adult and concession travellers and pay for the whole group with one tap.

Can I use a debit or credit card to transfer between services?

Yes, you can transfer between our services and only get charged 50 cents. You will still need to tap on and tap off using the same payment method for every trip on your journey. 

I have an international credit card. Can I use this?

Yes, you can use any contactless Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card, even if travelling from overseas. 

Can school students still use their TransportMe cards?

Yes, these can still be purchased through our offices.
