SkyBus has been awarded a major 5-year ground transportation contract by Sydney Airport to deliver comprehensive airside and landside bus services across the airport precinct.
The well-known red SkyBus buses carry over 3 million passengers annually across Express airport-to-city services in Melbourne and Hobart. In addition, SkyBus’ airport operations also include comprehensive ground transportation services ranging from inter-terminal transfers, airport-to-city transfers and airside bussing.
The contract marks Kinetic-owned SkyBus' first expansion into Sydney, bringing the brand's proven airport expertise to one of Australia's busiest international and domestic airports.
SkyBus will commence Sydney Airport services from today, operating a fleet of 40 buses from a dedicated depot facility at the Airport.
SkyBus will also support Sydney Airport with their transition to zero-emissions bussing, with the full fleet of buses to transition to fully electric over the contract term.
The new airside services will play a crucial role in supporting Sydney Airport's expansion plans, providing essential bussing services to meet growing passenger demand.
Kinetic Managing Director (Australia) Matthew Campbell said the expansion to Sydney represents a significant milestone for the SkyBus brand.
"We're delighted to be partnering with Sydney Airport through our established SkyBus brand, which has built a strong reputation across Australia for specialised airport bussing services," he said.
"SkyBus has earned a reputation for operational excellence at major airports, and we're bringing that same specialised expertise to both airside and landside services at Sydney Airport.
"Our airside bussing services in particular will play an important role in supporting Sydney Airport's expansion plans, ensuring passengers and airport operations are seamlessly connected as demand continues to grow.
"As the regional leader in bus electrification, we share Sydney Airport’s strong commitment to sustainability and look forward to working closely with them to bring more zero-emission buses to the precinct."
Leanne Geraghty, Sydney Airport General Manager Passenger Experience, said: “Our passengers are at the heart of everything we do, and ensuring they can move effortlessly through the airport is a key part of the experience.
"Partnering with SkyBus will allow us to deliver efficient transport services across the precinct, while also supporting our transition to a fully electric fleet. This means passengers can look forward to smoother connections today, and a more sustainable journey into the future."
SkyBus’ Sydney Airport operations will join the brand’s established airport precinct services at Melbourne Airport (airside and landside), Adelaide Airport (airside) and Auckland Airport (airside).
