TPP x Kinetic Preston Depot Opening 135

A striking piece of reconciliation artwork adorns the walls of Kinetic's Preston depot in Melbourne – a visual celebration of connection, journey and shared purpose created by Wurundjeri artist Alex Kerr.

The bespoke artwork, commissioned as part of the depot's development, reflects Kinetic's commitment to reconciliation and acknowledges the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the depot operates.

Alex, a proud Wurundjeri man born and raised in Melbourne, designed the piece to tell a story of connection – between Kinetic's people, the communities the company serves, and the Country on which it operates.

"The meeting place at the centre represents a connected Kinetic and community, watched over by ancestors as we work and move on Country," Alex said.

Flowing waterways connect the central meeting place to a series of gathering places branching outward – a design inspired by the bus route maps that guide Kinetic's services across Melbourne's northern suburbs.

"The waterways represent the shared journey and relationships created over time with community," he said.

"The gathering places branching from the river reflect both the bus route maps and the many areas across Country where Kinetic and community sit together, sharing stories and knowledge to guide our reconciliation journey."

Through his creative studio, Liwik Yiyah Consulting, Alex fosters deeper connections between businesses, communities and First Nations culture through his art – ensuring stories, symbols and traditions are celebrated and acknowledged in meaningful ways.

The artwork is a visible symbol of Kinetic's Reconciliation Action Plan commitments in action, with the Preston depot designed not just as an operational facility, but as a space that reflects the values of the company and the communities it serves.

Kinetic officially opened the Preston depot on 29 January 2026, with Alex performing the Welcome to Country ceremony. The purpose-built facility is home to Victoria's first overhead gantry charging infrastructure and serves as the operational hub for Kinetic's Metropolitan Zero Emission Bus Franchise, servicing 14 routes across Melbourne's northern suburbs.
