Leading mass transit operator Kinetic has launched its Cadetship Program – a talent development initiative designed to build the next generation of transport leaders.

The 2026 intake will welcome cadets across Australia and New Zealand.

The program will see cadets rotate across key areas of the business, gaining practical capability and confidence across operations, planning and leadership functions. Cadets will receive targeted training, dedicated mentorship, and a pathway to a permanent role upon completion.

Kinetic Group CEO Michael Sewards said the Cadetship Program demonstrates the company's commitment to investing in its people and building capability from within.

"We're creating clear career pathways that give motivated individuals the skills, confidence and operational knowledge to become our future leaders," Mr Sewards said.

"This is about developing talent the Kinetic way – with real experience across every part of our operation."

In Australia, two positions are available – a role in the Planning team on the Gold Coast and one based in Melbourne as part of the company's Operations Leadership Pathway.

The inaugural intake will specifically target women cadets, encouraging applicants into the program by offering tailored development to break down the systemic barriers that have long limited women's advancement into leadership positions in transport.

Kinetic Executive General Manager – People and Safety (Australia) Madonna Hegerty said the Australian intake reflects Kinetic's commitment to building a more diverse leadership pipeline.

"Women remain underrepresented in leadership roles across the transport industry, and we're determined to change that," Ms Hegerty said.

"This program gives women the opportunity to develop the skills and experience they need to step into senior operational roles."

In New Zealand, two positions are available across Kinetic’s urban and regional operations, offering an Operations Leadership Pathway.

The New Zealand intake will focus on developing future operational leaders through structured rotations, targeted training, and dedicated mentorship, with a clear pathway into supervisory leadership upon completion.

Director – People, Culture and Safety (New Zealand) Nicky Harrison said the program reflects Kinetic's commitment to strengthening leadership capaiblity across the region.

"This program is about building our future leaders here in New Zealand," Ms Harrison said.

"By providing structured development and real operational experience, we’re creating clear pathways for talented people to step into leadership roles across our New Zealand operations.

“We’re committed to developing a diverse pipeline of future leaders who reflect the communities we serve.”
