Kinetic will roll out a major boost to bus services across the Tweed from Monday 29 June, delivering 175 additional services every week – around 25 extra services each day – as part of a network redesign shaped by community feedback and built to keep pace with one of the region's fastest-growing corridors.
Delivered in partnership with Transport for NSW, the changes improve five of Kinetic's urban routes in the Tweed (Routes 601, 603, 605, 606 and 609), reworking and extending routes, and increasing route frequencies to better connect residents with hospitals, shops, schools, and the Gold Coast.
The investment creates seven new full-time jobs and brings one additional bus to the local fleet.
A key change is the extension of Route 601 to service the new Kings Forest Estate for the first time, getting public transport into the growth area ahead of the homes and families moving in.
Extended hours on Route 601 will also enable evening servicing of Tweed Valley Hospital, aligned to shifts, giving the region's healthcare workers reliable transport to and from work after dark.
Route 609 will operate on weekends and public holidays and extend through to Kingscliff – giving passengers travelling from as far as Murwillumbah an easier, transfer-free trip to the hospital, TAFE and Kingscliff town.
Route 603 will be rerouted via Moss Street and extended into Tweed Mall, opening up a direct run from Pottsville into Tweed and stronger connections across the border to the Gold Coast and Gold Coast Airport.
Route 605 will move to hourly frequency, improving travel between Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads, while Route 606 picks up additional trips from Monday to Saturday to maintain local coverage along the Keith Compton Drive area.
Kinetic General Manager (Gold Coast & Tweed Heads) Matthew Thompson said the changes were designed with the community, for the community.
"These changes are about making it genuinely easier for people across the Tweed to get where they need to go – whether that's to work, to the hospital, to the shops or across to the Gold Coast," he said.
"We listened closely to feedback from local residents and worked hand in hand with Transport for NSW to design routes that reflect how people actually move around the Tweed.
“Adding 175 services a week is a real, tangible improvement that people will feel from day one."
Mr Thompson said the redesign reflected Kinetic's approach of planning networks around where communities are heading, not just where they are today.
"As our community grows, our network needs to grow with it.
“The Tweed is changing fast, and bringing buses into Kings Forest at this stage of the development means public transport will be there from the start.
“We're proud to be investing in local jobs at the same time, with seven new full-time roles created right here in the Tweed."
Changes to the network will commence on Monday 29 June, with passengers encouraged to check their route ahead of time to plan their journeys.
