Women in Transport

Reshaping gender balance in transport

Globally, women remain underrepresented in key decision-making roles across almost all industries. At Kinetic, we're determined to change this reality through meaningful action and measurable targets.

We've adopted the Champions of Change Coalition's 40:40:20 vision for gender equality across our entire workforce by 2030. This approach envisions our workforce comprising 40% women, 40% men, and 20% of any or no specific gender.

This ambitious target demonstrates our commitment to creating not just parity, but a truly diverse and inclusive environment where all perspectives are valued and represented.

A culture we’re proud of

Achieving gender balance requires more than recruitment programs—it demands systemic change in how we develop, support and retain women across all roles.

We've implemented inclusive recruitment practices that actively source diverse talent and eliminate biases in hiring processes.

To support career development, we ensure at least 50% of participants in Kinetic's leadership and training programs are women, providing equal opportunities for career advancement and mentorship.

Since 2022, we've invested over $4 million in upgrading amenities, facilities and breakout areas for women across our network. These physical improvements to depots and offices built in eras when few women worked in transport demonstrate our practical commitment to making our workplaces welcoming for all.

We’re putting women up front

Since 2022, Women Up Front has been our flagship training program for increasing female participation in bus driving roles.

The program provides women who have excellent customer service skills but no heavy vehicle experience with paid training to become fully qualified bus drivers within four weeks.

Since its inception, Women Up Front has successfully brought hundreds of women into driving roles, creating tangible change in depot gender ratios. In 2024, we proudly expanded this successful program to New Zealand, further demonstrating our Australasia-wide commitment.

We’re developing women leaders

Beyond driving roles, we're committed to gender balance in leadership positions throughout Kinetic.

Graduates from our 2024 ‘Future CEO’ initiative have been valuable additions to Kinetic’s leadership team, benefiting from bespoke training that directly addressed the structural and cultural barriers that have historically limited women's progression to senior roles in the transport sector.
