We know that buses are more than just a way to get from A to B, they’re unique shared spaces where connections happen every day. That’s why, in New Zealand, we’re proud to launch Thanks Driver – powered by Kinetic, a new online content series and campaign celebrating the incredible people behind the wheel.
The initiative was created in response to a rise in anti-social behaviour on board, including in Tauranga, where the series is being filmed. It celebrates our drivers, their stories, and the positive impact simple acts of gratitude can have, for both drivers and passengers.
“Our drivers work hard to get passengers safely from A to B, but their stories take us much further,” says Calum Haslop, Managing Director, Kinetic New Zealand.
“With Thanks Driver, we’re sharing a rare glimpse into the lives our drivers lead beyond the wheel and highlighting how everyone can play a part in creating a more positive experience on board.”
The series introduces a diverse group of drivers, each with their own unique passions and stories.
“Our drivers are as diverse as our passengers, and it’s wonderful to be able to showcase that,” adds Calum.
“Building positive shared spaces requires a multi-faceted approach. This includes maintaining clean, comfortable buses, providing de-escalation training for drivers, and using safety measures such as CCTV and driver safety screens. Beyond infrastructure, small gestures and acknowledgement on board also help make every journey better and safer for everyone.”
While instances of anti-social behaviour are regularly reported, saying “thank you” is a pro-social behaviour, alongside gestures like smiling and greeting others. Research shows that positive body language and friendly interactions with fellow passengers improve social comfort in shared spaces like buses. Thanks Driver – powered by Kinetic demonstrates how even small, everyday actions can foster safer, more welcoming, and connected journeys.
